THE 55TH MEETING OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE ASIA-PACIFIC BROADCASTING UNION (ABU) STARTED ITS WORK IN ASHGABAT

On October 4, 2018, the grand opening of the 55th meeting of the General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) took place in the Turkmen capital.

From the Turkmen side, the opening ceremony was attended by members of the government, heads of the State Committee of Turkmenistan on television, radio broadcasting and cinematography, domestic media, specialized faculties of universities, and journalists from leading foreign news agencies accredited in our country.

In the welcoming speech to the forum participants, it was emphasized that the holding of the 55th meeting of the ABU General Assembly in Ashgabat is viewed in our country as one more confirmation of the growing international prestige of Turkmenistan, implementing a constructive foreign policy strategy of peacekeeping and creation.

The ceremony participants were shown a specially prepared video film, which described the progress in implementing the strategy of social and economic development of Turkmenistan, as well as the importance of the policy of progressive reforms conducted under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The Secretary General of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, Mr.Javad Mottagi, welcoming the participants of the solemn ceremony, expressed his gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for his assistance in organizing the meeting of the ABU General Assembly at the high level and warm hospitality extended at the Turkmen land.

Highly appreciating the large-scale reforms taking place in our country in the field of media development, Mr. Mottaghi noted the great role and personal contribution to this process of the head of state. In this regard, the ABU Secretary General voiced the decision taken by the organization on awarding President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with a Certificate, an award and a memorial sign for his outstanding contribution to the development of the media in the region.

At the conclusion of the official part, the forum continued its work. Among the issues put forward for discussion by the participants of the ABU General Assembly meeting are a summary of the work done and the identification of prospects for the forthcoming period, current areas for further development of cooperation in the field of international broadcasting, including the possibility of expanding partnerships and exchanging experience in organizing direct broadcasting.

At the end of the day, the ceremony of presenting special awards of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union was held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the capital to especially distinguished persons in the field of media, the creation of TV and radio programs and equipment.
