ONLINE CONSULTATIONS BETWEEN THE PARLIAMENTARIANS OF THE CENTRAL ASIAN COUNTRIES AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE OSCE PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY

On the 9th of June 2020, the consultations between the Chairpersons of the Parliaments of the Central Asian countries and the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly G.Tsereteli were held through videoconferencing.  At the online-session, the delegation of Turkmenistan was represented by the Deputy Chairperson of the Parliament (Mejlis) of Turkmenistan. 

A meaningful exchange of views took place during the meeting, during which the parliamentarians of the Central Asian countries shared ideas for the purposeful collaboration with the OSCE PA.  

During the web-discussions, the renewed information presented by the OSCE PA Secretary General R.Montella on the upcoming activities of the OSCE PA, as well as the addresses of the Heads of delegations of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan on the corresponding measures in the area of economic development, legislative reforms, elections on local and regional levels, intensification of regional cooperation, reinforcement of the parliamentarians’ participation to the OSCE PA and the parliamentary dialogue were heard.       

Besides, during the constructive and informative discussions, the participants considered a wide range of issues in regard to the crisis evolved from the COVID-19 pandemic.  In this context, it was stated that the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly encourages the mutual aid, coordination and exchange of experience, as well as the best practices through regular parliamentary web-dialogues which serve as a method of enhancing preparedness, resilience and response measures of each participating state in the future.   

Also, during the presentations, the Turkmen side specifically noted that the active work of the Government, including the Parliament (Mejlis) of Turkmenistan in this challenging situation to a large extent contributes to the creation of response measures and consolidated efforts of the world community that is able to protect the world population from a vast spectrum of persisting threats to security, defend the main rights of citizens and support the long-term restoration of economy.
