MEETING OF THE AMBASSADORS OF THE NON-ALIGNED MOVEMENT MEMBER STATES IN GENEVA

On the 6th of November, 2019, the meeting of the Ambassadors of the Non-Aligned Movement member states took place in the Palace of Nations in Geneva.  The heads and representatives of the diplomatic missions of the NAM countries and observes-states of the Movement at the UN Office in Geneva participated to the meeting. 

During the session, the participants exchanged views on the 18th Summit of the Heads of States and Governments of the Non-Aligned Movement which was held on October 25-26, 2019, in Baku, as well as on the NAM events planned for the near future.   

In this context, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva A.Haljanov acquainted the participants with the initiatives and priorities of Turkmenistan for the coming future in light of the recent participation of the President of Turkmenistan to the work of the NAM Summit in Baku.

Elaborating on the theme of strengthening the overall security and necessity of enhancing the efforts in this area with concrete political and legal content, Ambassador of Turkmenistan acquainted the participants with the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan on declaring the year 2021 as the International Year of Peace and Trust, the corresponding resolution on which was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on the 12th of September of 2019 and was co-sponsored by the 73 UN member-states.

In the end, the Turkmen diplomat informed about the major international events to be held in Ashgabat on December 12, 2020 and dedicated to the 25th anniversary of international recognition of the neutrality status of our country which will also include the International Conference on Peace, Security and Sustainable Development.
