ONLINE PRESENTATION OF THE REGIONAL INITIATIVE OF THE INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR MIGRATION

On May 14, 2020, the online presentation of the regional initiative of the International Organization for Migration entitled “New Horizons of Cooperation amid COVID-19 Pandemic” was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The representatives of the MFA, State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, as well as the representatives of the IOM member states from Central Asia, Russia and Europe, IOM experts, and donor organizations took part in the event.  The presentation session was chaired by Zeynal Hajiyev, Regional Coordinator of the International Organization for Migration, Chief of IOM Missions in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

During the event, the participants were informed about the expert analysis of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the worldwide social-economic and humanitarian situation.  The objective of the meeting laid in the presentation and discussion of the draft of the IOM Regional initiative on coordinating the cooperation for overcoming the impacts of the pandemic, with special accent on the resolution of issues which are faced by migrants in current situation. 

This initiative is based on the principles of the IOM Global Appeal to cooperation for overcoming the implications of the pandemic and focuses on the resolution of regional migration problems.
